Custom hempcrete homes in Colorado. Build different, build safe, build healthy, build a hempcrete home!
Healthy Hemp Homes was founded in 2018 by David and Eric Milburn. David is an architect with decades experience designing sustainable homes throughout Colorado, New Mexico and Wisconsin. His son, Eric, is a carpenter, project manager, and sustainable homes General Contractor.
Together, they discovered hempcrete and quickly realized the incredible benefits to building beautiful, organic, homes made with natural materials. The company has grown over the years from subcontracting to full service: design, build. It’s also grown in people including: Eric’s close friend, master carpenter, and co-owner, Tanner Bowman. We see hemp as the hero of the 21st century, saving the construction industry for generations to come.
Our Story
Our Team
Eric Milburn
Founder and Co-OwnerEric is a Wisconsin native and a Colorado transplant. He moved to Centennial State 10 years ago right after college and lived in his car while he pursued a career. He spent those formative years working in events, specifically TEDxMileHigh, followed by a social impact accelerator all the way up until the pandemic put events on hold. As a result, he lost his job and began his career in construction. While working as a carpenter for two different Denver contractors, he noticed how wasteful the industry is and thought there has to be a better way to build homes that isn't so bad for the environment or for one's health.
Enter: hempcrete. He was first introduced to hempcrete by his grandmother who returned from a trip in southeast Asia where they had been building with hempcrete for generations. Taking her advice, he stepped into the space first by attending a workshop in Fort Collins and further educated himself by joining hempcrete builds in Colorado and Idaho. His ambitions of hempcrete now intertwined with his career in construction. In 2023, he started working as a project manager for an electrification company installing heat pumps working to make homes cleaner and more efficient.
In this role, he learned the skills needed to manage the construction of a home. Over the years, he kept his hempcrete dreams alive by building a website and marketing his skills until one day, a client was interested in building their dream home in Littleton, CO. Eric connected him with his Dad, a career-long architect, to design the house and two years later, a contract was signed and construction began. Eric is excited to devote the rest of his career to building healthier, stronger, and natural hempcrete homes across the US.
Tanner Bowman
Co-OwnerTanner began woodworking at a young age alongside his father and grandfather in his dad’s basement workshop. From simple birdhouses and backyard treehouses to innovative hemp homes, his love for building has only grown stronger over the years.
During high school, Tanner worked for his father’s construction business, gaining valuable hands-on experience in the trade.
After graduating from Colorado State University with a degree in Philosophy, Ethics, and Religion, Tanner pursued a variety of careers until he ultimately went back to his roots in wood working. While his wife attended graduate school at UW-Madison, Tanner worked as a full-time carpenter for a general contractor in Wisconsin. That experience reignited his passion for construction, and he dedicated himself to learning everything he could about building and remodeling homes.
After Tanner and his wife moved back to Colorado, he started his own remodeling company. He specialized in custom woodworking projects such as bookshelf doors, furniture, kitchen cabinetry, and full home remodels. Over time, he developed a reputation for incorporating creative and unique features—especially hidden doors, drawers, and rooms—into his clients’ homes, something he genuinely enjoys designing and building.
Tanner has always dreamed of building distinctive, high-quality homes that reflect both craftsmanship and creativity. When he met Eric, the connection was immediate. They quickly discovered they shared similar values, a love of nature, a passion for sustainable building, and a healthy appreciation for the same sense of humor.
Partnering together felt like a natural step. Tanner joined Eric in business and became a co-owner of Healthy Hemp Homes, where they work together to build sustainable, innovative homes rooted in craftsmanship and environmental responsibility.
